Color creates mood. Interior design color also resembles your personality. So choosing the right color for your home is important and I realized it’s not an easy task. Therefore, I have come up with a summary from what I have read from a few magazines and interior design websites, as well as color tips and advice from the staff of the paint shop!

In general, color gives a major impact on the size and shape of spaces. Warm colors usually decrease the apparent size of a room while cool colors can help increase the size visually.

I’d say start your home interior design color with the room where you and your family spend the most time, which is most of the times happened to be the living room. Identify the mood that you want to create. Then, think of a color that can will help you achieve that mood. Oh, it doesn’t have to be just one color. If you’re creative enough, you can opt for more than one color (perhaps a different color for the featured wall), but exceeding more than three colors in a room will make the room look stuffy and untidy.

A very important note when selecting color scheme; think about the surface on which the paint will be applied. The color of the chosen paint might get mixed with the color of the wall finish itself. Therefore, always take into consideration your current interior design color because if your current wall color is something outstanding like bright or deep red, blue, green and black, it’s a good idea for you to have the wall to be painted with a few coatings so that you can get the right color that you wanted.

Besides that, check your house lighting conditions especially around the rooms as this will also gives an impact on the selection of the interior design color. Remember that a color scheme is never a stand alone entity. It is always associated with many other factors like wall surfaces and lighting conditions just as mentioned above.

• Blue - restful, soothing and cool
• Green - soothing, reassuring and natural
• Black - sleek and elegant
• Deep Purple - grandeur and opulence
• Light violet - feminine
• White - stylish and, like gray and black, it amplifies the effects of other colors.
• Red and orange - exciting, sexy and passionate

However, one of the best interior design color advice that I got is to avoid too much of the yellow and black combination for your color schemes unless you would want your house theme is bumble bee! So, start thinking of the best color you and your family are comfortable with living, and choose the best interior design color for your home!
